The βFinalissimaβ match between Spain national football team and Argentina national football team in Doha is in doubt after the Qatar Football Association suspended all football tournaments indefinitely amid escalating regional tensions.
The high-profile encounter, scheduled for March 27 at Lusail Stadium, was set to feature stars such as Lamine Yamal and Lionel Messi.
βQatar Football Association announces the postponement of all tournaments, competitions and matches, effective from today and until further notice,β the association said in a statement on Sunday, adding that new dates would be communicated through official channels.
The final decision regarding the Finalissima rests with event organisers UEFA and CONMEBOL.
Elsewhere, the Bahrain Football Association also postponed all matches, while the Asian Football Confederation delayed Champions League Elite fixtures in the region. The Asian Champions League Two and Challenge League competitions have similarly been affected.
Countries across the Middle East have been on heightened alert following U.S. and Israeli air strikes targeting Iran and subsequent retaliatory missile attacks reportedly aimed at U.S. positions in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar.
On Sunday, Qatarβs interior ministry reported a fire in an industrial zone after debris from an intercepted missile fell in the area, further underscoring the tense security situation.
