On Monday, personnel from the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) BEECROFT saved 10 crew members from a fishing vessel that overturned in the Lagos Channel.

According to reports, the OLOKUM XII was being pulled by another fishing trawler when it reportedly capsized early on November 7.
According to a statement made on Monday night by Commander Edward Yeibo, Information Officer for Western Naval Command (WNC), the fishing boat collided with the MSC CORUNA, which caused it to capsize.

“Thanks to the NNS BEECROFT patrol team, which was out on a normal patrol, 10 crew members were quickly rescued from the trawler. The rescued crew was then given to corporate representatives from Barnaly Fishing Company Limited, he said.

Yeibo said that Commodore Malami Haruna, Commander of NNS BEECROFT, expressed sympathy to the fishing firm over the “sad incident” and advised seafarers to travel inside the country’s maritime domain with prudence and proper respect for the international law for collision prevention.
