Babatunji Wusu –
Agents of the Yobe State Hisbah Board have detained at least 14 commercial sex workers on suspicion of engaging in immoral activities and drug use.
Alhaji Yusuf Umar, the state’s commissioner of religious affairs and ethnic reorientation, said this in a Tuesday interview with LEADERSHIP in Damaturu.
According to Umar, the suspects were taken into custody on Sunday by Hisbah agents working with the police.
He claimed that during the month of Ramadan, the nine (9) female and five (5) male suspects were detained for engaging in immoral behavior that goes against Islamic principles.
Alh Umar went on to say that some of the suspects will be turned over to law enforcement for prosecution, while others would be brought to religious leaders for guidance.
He counseled the people of the state, especially the young people, to abstain from vices and immoral behavior that could ruin their future and encourage social decadence.
In addition to praising the state’s citizens for their assistance and collaboration in helping the board efficiently carry out its mandate, the Commissioner pledged that the Hisbah board will keep up its opposition to immoral behavior throughout the entire state.
