A woman was detained by the men of the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) for illegitimately emptying her trash can into a drainage canal.

The woman, known as Rukayat Oderinde, of number 17 Hassan Ogumola Street, Ahamadiyya, Lagos, was caught on camera breaking a rigorous waste management guideline when she dumped her household rubbish into the drainage channel.

In response, Mr. Ibrahim Odumboni, Managing Director/CEO of LAWMA, stated that inappropriate garbage disposal, particularly through drainage channels, might result in clogged drains, which in turn caused floods during heavy downpours.

The environmental offender had since received a 144-hour community service term, which the court ordered her to complete by cleaning the environment for eight hours every day for 18 days along the Ahmadiyya to Salolo route.
