First responders, including LASWA police, managed to save the lives of 17 people after their boat, the Fazma Logistics, capsized near the Third Mainland Bridge in the early hours of February 20, 2023.
The Lagos State Inland Waterways regulatory body revealed this in a statement issued on Monday and signed by LASWA Management, adding that the boat’s operator is currently being questioned as part of an inquiry.
According to LASWA, “At exactly 6:45 am on Monday, February 20, 2023, a commercial passenger ferry by the name of Fazma logistics departed Ikorodu ferry terminal on its way to Ebute Ero but unfortunately capsized around Third mainland bridge close to Bariga ferry terminal. The ferry was carrying 17 passengers.
First responders, including officers from the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA), managed to save the lives of all the passengers. While the inquiry is ongoing and the boat captain is being questioned, boat recovery operations started right away.
