No fewer than 176 women and children abducted during the February 3, 2026 attack on Woro and Nuku communities in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State have regained their freedom. The Kwara kidnap victims were released after months of uncertainty surrounding their whereabouts, marking a significant development for the affected communities.
The Kwara State Government confirmed the release on Wednesday through its official Facebook page, expressing gratitude to everyone who contributed to securing the victims’ freedom.
The government wrote, “Alihamdulillaah and kudos to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, security forces, and everyone who played a role in this huge feat. We are grateful!”
The Kwara kidnap victims were abducted when suspected Boko Haram-linked extremists launched a coordinated assault on the Woro and Nuku communities. The attackers, who reportedly arrived on motorcycles, carried out an operation that lasted for several hours and left widespread destruction in its wake.
The attack remains one of the deadliest incidents ever recorded in Kwara State. Reports indicated that more than 200 people lost their lives, while many others suffered injuries. The violence also destroyed homes and businesses, forcing several residents to flee their communities in search of safety.
Local vigilantes attempted to defend the communities during the attack but were reportedly overwhelmed by the heavily armed assailants. Some members of the vigilante group were said to have been trapped inside their office, which was allegedly set ablaze during the assault.
The successful release of the victims offers renewed hope to the affected families and communities after months of anxiety. It also highlights the continued efforts of security agencies and other stakeholders to secure the freedom of abducted persons and restore stability in areas affected by violent attacks.
