Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo state said the Second Niger Bridge built by President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration is enough for the Igbo people of the South-East geopolitical zone to vote for the All Progressives Congress, APC’s presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, in 2023.
On Thursday, Uzodimma made this claim during an interview with Channels Television’s Politics Today.
“Senator Bola Tinubu is the presidential candidate of the APC, the ruling party,” he said. Since the end of the civil war in 1970, the Igbos have been asking for the Second Niger Bridge, and government after government has made empty promises.
“The previous Christmas was met with joy, with Igbos traveling from outside the South-East via the Second Niger Bridge. That is even enough for the entire Igbo people to vote to keep Buhari’s legacy alive.”
Uzodimma, the South-East coordinator for Tinubu’s campaign, also stated that most federal roads in the zone have received adequate attention and budgetary commission, and commuters are no longer suffering as they used to.
“It is not about whether Bola Tinubu is from the same place with me; it is about the programmes, to the extent that the manifesto of our great party has convinced and endeared the people. “I’m confident that the APC is the party to beat in Nigeria,” he said.
Uzodimma also stated that he is running a unified campaign for all APC candidates in the South-East, expressing confidence that all APC candidates for governor, House of Assembly, House of Representatives, and Senate seats will be elected.
The Federal Government temporarily opened the bridge to traffic on December 15, 2022, to ease the experience of travelers during the Yuletide break pending the project’s final completion.
The 1.6-kilometer-long bridge connects the states of Anambra and Delta.
The Second Niger Bridge was first proposed during the 1978/79 political campaign by National Party of Nigeria candidate Shehu Shagari (NPN).
