Babatunji Wusu –

A 22-year-old man, identified as Godwin from Elebele in Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, has allegedly murdered his mother in an attempt to use her for a money ritual. According to community sources, Godwin had recently returned from Benin City, Edo State, where he had undergone training at a “yahoo-plus” center.

Upon his return, Godwin reportedly began acting erratically, distancing himself from his childhood friends, and claimed that a spiritual figure, referred to as “Baba,” had told him that his destiny and wealth were being obstructed by his deceased mother.

Comrade Precious Okala, Youth President of Elebele, confirmed the incident, stating that he was alerted around 6 p.m. on the day of the crime. Upon arriving, he found the woman’s body and her son, who had been apprehended by local youths. Okala recounted that the suspect had engaged in a struggle with his mother before fatally stabbing her in the stomach. Witnesses reported hearing Godwin claim that “Baba” had informed him his mother was blocking his success.

The suspect has since been handed over to officers from the Kolo Division of the Bayelsa State Police Command. Police spokesman Musa Mohammed confirmed that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.
