Sukyama Irmiya, the lady who entered the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) ward in Bauchi State to kidnap a pair of 14-day-old twin infants, has explained her motivation for the act.
The Bauchi State Police Command detained the 30-year-old suspect on September 27, 2022, six days after she had taken the infant by pretending to be a member of the medical staff. The suspect is from Kanam LGA in Plateau State.
The suspect told reporters: “I went to the Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) to visit a doctor when I arrived in Bauchi to see a doctor, but I subsequently changed my mind due to the state I found myself in. I believed that there was no chance of having children even if I saw the doctor because it is all about childbearing and I don’t have a husband because I was kicked out of my marriage.
I chose to steal a newborn kid because I wanted it and wanted to raise it as my own child for that reason.
