Babatunji Wusu –
Forty-seven members of the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) and Boko Haram have turned themselves in to the troops of the 403 Amphibious Brigade of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) Sector 3 in Nigeria.
In a statement released on Thursday in Maiduguri, Lt.-Col. Abubakar Abdullahi, Chief Military Public Information Officer, Ndjamena, Chad, made this claim.
According to Abdullahi, there were 31 children, nine women, and seven men in the group.
After spending several years with the terrorists, he added, the families of the terrorists went back to Kwatan Turare and Doron Baga in Kukawa Local Government Area, Borno, Nigeria.
He revealed that in the course of the first inquiry, it was found that the people who turned themselves in were able to get out of Sharama, which is in the Lake Chad Islands.
He claimed that Mallam Muazu Adamu, a well-known combatant for the Jama’at Ahl as-Sunnah lid-Da’wah wa’l-Jihad (JAS) faction, was one of those who turned themselves in.
“He has surrendered with his spouse and worked under Commander Alai Gana,” he stated.
Other members of the group, according to Abdullahi, revealed that they had been farming before determining to flee.
He claims that clothes, blankets, mats, pots, dishes, and a variety of other personal goods were discovered in their possession.
He stated that the people who turned themselves in were being held in jail and were the subject of additional inquiries to find out more about their whereabouts and connections.
According to Abdullahi, the MNJTF is still dedicated to upholding security and tranquility in the Lake Chad basin.
This development represents a milestone in the ongoing efforts to reduce terrorist organizations’ ability to operate in the area.
“Those who are still involved in terrorist activities are still being encouraged by the MNJTF to surrender and embrace peace,” he stated. (NAN)
