Five people who were kidnapped last Thursday by gunmen in the state’s Isin local government area have been freed by men from the Kwara State Police Command.
Okasanmi Ajayi, the state police’s spokesperson, revealed this in a statement early on Sunday.
Ajayi claimed that members of the Command’s Anti-kidnapping Unit stationed in the Isin axis, as well as local vigilantes and hunters, gave the kidnappers a hot pursuit, forcing them to leave the Siena bus carrying the captives at the time of the incident. Oke Olatunji, one of the victims, was rescued as a result.
Additionally, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Ebunoluwarotimi Adelesi, led the special tactical team of the Command on search and rescue operations in the forests of Isin, which on Saturday rescued another victim identified as Femi Ajayi, who had been shot and taken to the health center in Isanlu-Isin where he is currently receiving medical care.
According to the police spokesman, “the remaining three kidnapped victims were released by their abductors late last night (Saturday) as a result of the pressure mounted by the command’s tactical team and the vigilantes led by CP Ebunoluwarotimi Adelesi.”
Ajayi claimed that at Isanlu-Isin, the state police commissioner met with vigilantes, hunters, and other community leaders to address concerns impacting the region and to develop tactics and plans to prevent further attacks on the community.
He also said that efforts were being made to apprehend the alleged kidnappers.
Ajayi continued, “CP Ebunoluwarotimi Adelesi visited the town’s police station and pledged to add more officers to the station to further improve the safety and security of local residents.
