Three vehicles loaded with 5,800 alcohol bottles have been impounded by Sharia Board, Hisbah, Kano State Commission, and Sharia Police personnel.
This was said by the Hisbah Board Commander-General, Harun Ibn-Sina, on Monday in Kano while inspecting the seized vehicles at the Hisbah headquarters.
Lawan Fagge, a spokesman for the board, reported that the three vehicles were seized on Sunday. Noting that a Sienna minivan carried 3,000 bottles of beer, a Mercedes Benz automobile carried 1,800 bottles, and a Volkswagen Golf car carried 1,000 bottles.
Ibn-Sina applauded the anti-intoxicants unit for its efforts to ensure the cessation of alcohol and dangerous drug consumption in the state and for seizing the vehicles.
The Commander-General pledged that the board will continue its efforts to rid Kano State of all vices, particularly drug trafficking and abuse.
He instructed the board’s Legal Department to respect the law by delivering the consignment to the court so that it can take the appropriate measures.
The Kano State Hisbah Board is putting up great effort to maintain strict respect to the law, full compliance with the law, upholding Islamic teachings, upholding morality, and promoting peaceful coexistence amongst various ethnic and religious groups.
In order to accomplish the targeted goals, “the board will cooperate with important stakeholders,” he said.
The three cars were seized while trying to transport beer into Kano, according to Jamilu Hassan-Yakasai, head of the anti-intoxicants section.
In order to ensure complete compliance and rigorous obedience to the rules prohibiting the sale and consumption of intoxicants in Kano State, Jamilu revealed that the unit was operating in the 44 local government areas of the state.
He declared that the unit would not give up until beer consumption in Kano State was abolished.
