The promotion of 745 Senior Police Officers has been accepted by the Police Service Commission (PSC).
A correct placement for five police commissioners and one deputy commissioner was also taken into consideration and authorized by the commission.

The PSC also handled nine pending disciplinary matters and 14 appeals and petitions from Police Officers who had been fired or were still on the job.

The decisions were among the highlights of the 18th Plenary Meeting of the Commission, which concluded in Abuja and was presided over by Justice Clara Bata Ogunbiyi, JSC (rtd), CFR, acting chairman of the Commission.

The Commission promoted two Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSP) to Superintendents of Police, 696 Assistant Superintendents of Police to Deputy Superintendents of Police, and 47 Inspectors of Police to Assistant Superintendents of Police who had not yet been confirmed (ASP11).

Yusuf S. Bello and Titus Ogboku Obaji, two newly promoted superintendents of police, were named in a statement by the PSC Head of Press and Public Relations, Ikechukwu Ani. Among the 696 promoted deputy superintendents of police were Ogbu Emmanuel Nwachukwu of the Abia State Command, Haruna Hotoro of the Ekiti State Command, Ogbe Anthonia of the Plateau State Command, Sadisu

44 Inspectors from the Police Zone 9 Command Headquarters Umuahia were promoted to unconfirmed Assistant Superintendents of Police, ASP11, out of the total of 47 Inspectors. They include Oruma James, Momoh Mohammed, Hosea John, Danjuma Likita, Omale Nathaniel, John Ononaku, Ogbonnaya Ugochukwu, and Ikpo Kalu. Daniel Maiwada is also among them. Oju Ismaila, Ngozika Christopher, Obinna Anyanwu, Iheamachanma Nkechi, Ungbo Moses, Abuh James, Kyaaja Peter, Bakari Edward, Haruna Ayuba, Aliyu Mohammed, and Auta Akila are few others.

In order to maintain seniority on the Force, the Commission also approved the right placement of CP Njoku Henry Eronini, CP Afolabi Babatola Adeniyi, and CP Taiwo Olusola Jesubiyi in the CP staff list from 24/03/2022 to 09/03/2022.

Additionally, it changed CP Ogundele Ayodeji’s promotion date from 09/03/2022 to 03/06/2021.

Ani stated: “The Commission also changed DCP Nwonyi Polycap Emeka’s confirmation date to read 07/12/2018 rather than 29/09/2020.

Six other police officers received severe reprimands as punishment, and the Commission accepted the rank decrease of four police officers. Six officers were reinstated, two were let go due to public interest, one was promoted to CP, DCP Emmanuel Eze, and then he was let go. It reevaluated Inspector Falade Kayode’s punishment of a rank reduction, cleared him, and gave him back his former rank of ASP 1.

“Justice Ogunbiyi, the chairman of the commission, praised the members of the commission for their commitment and dedication to the task of elevating the Nigeria Police. In order to ensure that no Police Officer is hindered in the advancement of his or her career, she noted that their support and cooperation had enabled the Commission to address a number of unresolved problems, maintain prompt and regular promotions within the Police and Commission, and resolve pending disciplinary matters.

“Justice Ogunbiyi congratulated the Commission’s employees a good holiday season and a prosperous new year, pledging that the Nigeria Police Force would become more effective in the next year.”
