Bayern Munich has extended Jan-Christian Dreesen’s contract as Chief Executive Officer for an additional two years, securing his leadership role through June 2027. The club confirmed this decision on Monday, emphasizing its commitment to continuity at the top. The extension was unanimously approved by Bayern’s supervisory board.

In a statement, club president Herbert Hainer praised Dreesen’s leadership, particularly noting how he took charge during a challenging period. “Dreesen took over the chairmanship of the board during a difficult phase and quickly led FC Bayern Munich AG back into calmer waters. We want to continue on this path together. We’re certain he is the right person to tackle the challenges ahead together with his board colleagues Michael Diederich and Max Eberl,” Hainer said.

This contract extension comes as a counterpoint to recent speculation, including a widely circulated report last month suggesting that Bayern would part ways with Dreesen. However, the decision to extend his tenure affirms the club’s confidence in his leadership.

Dreesen, who joined Bayern from the banking sector in 2013, was promoted to vice-chairman of the supervisory board a year later. He succeeded Oliver Kahn as CEO in 2023, following the abrupt departures of Kahn and sporting director Hasan Salihamidžić, which coincided with Bayern’s 11th consecutive Bundesliga title. Under Dreesen’s leadership, Bayern saw an end to its long-standing Bundesliga dominance, with Bayer Leverkusen claiming the title last season. However, the current season has shown a promising start, with Bayern currently five points clear at the top of the league after 10 rounds under new head coach Vincent Kompany.

Additionally, Bayern has made key appointments to strengthen its management team, including Christopher Freund as sporting director, and Max Eberl as a board member for sport. Michael Diederich continues in his role as CFO. The club will hold its annual general meeting on December 8, where it is expected to announce another season of record-breaking revenue.
