Eight suspended members of the Zamfara State House of Assembly have met President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja after reaffirming their commitment to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The lawmakers attended the meeting with Minister of State for Defence and former Zamfara State Governor, Bello Matawalle, who is an APC chieftain.
In a statement issued on Monday, Matawalle’s Personal Assistant on Media, Ahmad Dan-Wudil, said the legislators restated their support for the president and their intention to remain in the ruling party.
Matawalle also promised to introduce them to the Tinubu Again Movement (TAM), a political group working to support the president.
The group is expected to mobilise support for Tinubu and other APC candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The eight lawmakers are Aliyu Ango Kagara of Talata Mafara South, Ibrahim Tukur Bakura of Bakura, Faruk Musa Dosara of Maradun I and Bashir Abubakar Masama of Bukkuyum North.
The others are Muktaru Nasiru Kaura of Kaura North, Nasiru Abdullahi of Maru North, Bashar Bello of Bungudu West and Bashar Aliyu of Gummi I.
Why the lawmakers were suspended
The Zamfara lawmakers were suspended on 26 February 2024 over allegations of gross misconduct, conspiracy and holding an illegal sitting.
The Assembly extended their suspension on 13 May 2026.
However, Speaker Bilyaminu Ismail Moriki previously said the disciplinary action took place before the lawmakers made their political decisions. He also said the suspension was unrelated to their party affiliations.
The latest meeting brings the suspended legislators into discussions involving the president and APC supporters ahead of the 2027 elections.
