The Chairman of Akuku-Toru Local Government Area in Rivers State, Aboiya-a Bob-Fubara, has called for an investigation into a fatal boat mishap involving a company operating in the Robert-Kiri axis of Kula community.
Bob-Fubara expressed condolences to the families of those who died in the incident. He also urged relevant government agencies to establish the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Soibi Oruwari, the council chairman pledged to engage the appropriate authorities to investigate the incident and determine its immediate and underlying causes.
He also called on security agencies to investigate the presence of gunboats in the area.
The chairman said the investigation should establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and help prevent similar tragedies.
Meanwhile, Bob-Fubara urged all parties involved to remain calm and avoid actions that could escalate tensions in Kula.
He said his administration would not ignore incidents that could put residents’ lives at risk. He also reiterated his commitment to resolving disputes through dialogue and other peaceful means.
Furthermore, the chairman appealed to residents of Kula to maintain peace while the relevant authorities examine the circumstances surrounding the boat mishap.
He warned against actions that could worsen the situation or increase tensions within the community.
Bob-Fubara also said his office remained open to receiving complaints from residents and other parties affected by the incident.
He pledged to forward such complaints to the appropriate authorities for necessary action.
The council chairman’s call for a probe comes as the circumstances surrounding the fatal boat mishap and the presence of gunboats in the Robert-Kiri axis remain key issues for the relevant authorities to investigate.
