FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has denied endorsing Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate Senator Ishaku Abbo in Adamawa State, describing a social media report claiming he supported the candidate as fake.
Wike’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, issued the denial in a statement on Friday.
The statement said a social media post had attributed comments to Wike urging Adamawa voters to make informed decisions at the ballot. It also quoted him as saying Abbo was the best candidate to lead the state.
However, the minister rejected the claims and denied endorsing Abbo or any Labour Party candidate in Adamawa State. The statement also said Wike had no relationship with the Labour Party or its candidates in the state.
It urged residents to disregard the report and said the minister would publicly announce his preferred candidate if he decided to support anyone in the governorship contest.
“Whoever he is supporting, he will use his own mouth to say it,” the statement said.
The denial comes amid political activity surrounding the governorship contest in Adamawa State. However, the statement did not identify the source of the social media post or provide further details about its publication.
Wike, a former governor of Rivers State, currently serves as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory. His aide’s statement maintained that the claim linking him to Abbo was false.
