Nigerian actress and disc jockey Dorcas Shola Fapson, popularly known as Ms DSF, has said poor people should not have children if they cannot afford to raise them.

Speaking on a recent episode of the In My Opinion podcast, Ms DSF argued that financial hardship can affect parents and their children.

She said people should consider the cost of raising a family before deciding to have children.

“Poor people shouldn’t have kids. I don’t think it is fair to the children. It is not fair to the family. It is not fair to you,” she said.

Ms DSF explained her position by referring to a cousin who has five children and frequently asks relatives for financial assistance.

She said the requests often involve basic needs, including school fees and feeding.

“Why do you have five? Every week, she is requesting for financial assistance for school fees, feeding. It is so unfair. Why have kids when you don’t have means to sustain them? It is not fair,” she said.

The actress also spoke about her upbringing. She said she grew up in a humble home and decided she would not raise children in similar financial circumstances.

Ms DSF urged people planning to become parents to assess their financial capacity before having children.

Her comments focused on the financial responsibilities that come with raising a family, including education, feeding and other essential needs.

She maintained that intending parents should consider whether they can provide for their children before making that decision.
