The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has uncovered an illegal oil refinery allegedly operated by Chinese nationals in Ogere, Ogun State.
EFCC operatives raided the facility on Saturday, October 31, but found the premises deserted when they arrived.
During the operation, investigators discovered underground storage tanks containing substances suspected to be diesel. The discovery has raised further questions about the activities carried out at the site.
Preliminary investigations revealed that sludge oil was transported from Warri, Delta State, and Port Harcourt, Rivers State, to the facility for processing.
The EFCC has taken control of the premises as investigations continue. The commission is working to establish the identities of those behind the operation and track down the owners of the illegal refinery.
The investigation is expected to uncover how the facility operated and identify those responsible for the suspected illegal oil processing activities.
