The  Ogun State chapter of Committee for the Defence of Human Rights and Grassroots Development Society and Police Community Relations Committee have called for a full-fledged investigation into the killing of a policeman, Sgt.Sunday Idoko during the Presidential and national assembly elections in the state.

Idoko was allegedly killed during the movement of elections results at Eredo, Yewa South local government area of the state.

The groups which observed the last elections also demanded that perpetrators of the dastardly act be brought to book.

The groups stated this in a statement jointly signed by Chairman Ogun Civil Society Organisation Coalition, Yinka Folarin; Acting   Chairman PCRC, Lawson Michael; Chairman CDHR, Shoyombo Sunday and General Secretary, HRGDS, Akanbi Femi.

The statement was tagged, “Situation appraisal on the State of Security in Ogun State and the Conduct of Security Agencies prior and during the February 23rd 2019 Presidential and National Assembly Elections”.

They, however, condemned the call for more military presence in the state ahead of the forthcoming governorship and House of Assembly elections in the  State.

The group said such call is capable of causing voter apathy and may discourage the electorate from effective participation.

They said, “Having observed the February 23rd Presidential and National Assembly Elections in Ogun State and in a quest to put some records straight, we have done a holistic situational critical analysis of our observations over the conduct of the Security agencies deployed for the elections duty and herein made available the content and demands

“We condemn the inhumane attack on INEC Officials and security personnel during the movement of elections results somewhere around Eredo, Yewa South Ogun West Senatorial District. It is considered a dastardly act, retrogressive and barbaric.

“We commiserate with the Inspector General of Police, Commissioner of Police Ogun State Command and the family of late Sgt. Sunday Idoko, who lost his life in the cause of escorting elections result and defending the lives of his fellow human beings.

“We, therefore, call on the Federal Government of Nigeria to give worthy intervention support to his family, that of the other Police Officers,  Security Personnel and other, who died in the cause of the National assignment

“We, therefore, advise that all participating political parties to play the game according to the rules. More so that,  stakeholders should be more concerned about maximum sensitization and mobilization of electorates towards the poll.

“That the unnecessary call for the transfer of the Ogun State Commissioner of Police is barbaric, inordinate and inhumane considering the Commissioner of Police CP. Ahmed Iliyasu tireless efforts and  commitment to sustainable peace and security in Ogun State,” the statement ended.
