Independent national electoral commission (INEC) has declared engr. Abdullahi sule of the all progressives congress (APC) winner of Saturday’s governorship election in nasarawa state, the candidate of all progressives grand alliance (APGA), has rejected the result of the poll.
APGA’s Labaran Maku, discredited the polls on the basis of alleged fraud. He made the allegation in Nasarawa Egg on area of the state on Monday.
He said: “the all progressives’ congress (APC) led government colluded with INEC and the security agencies to announce a pre-allocated election results and placed APGA in third position in order to shut us up to create an impression that the people are not with us”.
Maku, who is also a former Minister of communication, said that the preliminary reaction of his party was that the result was not the true reflection of the votes cast by the people of the state adding that “we reject it in totality.”
However, incumbent governor, Umaru Al-Makura, earlier advised aggrieved opposition party members in the state to go to court and seek redress instead of breaching the peace in the state.
Al-Makura warned that the government will bring the full weight of the law on trouble markers.
While speaking in Lafia, Al Makura said there were reports that some politicians in the state were planning to disrupt the peace in the state if the elections did not go their way.
He said: “evidence before us has indicated that some disgruntled elements have concluded their evil plans to break the peace of the state. Government would not fold its hands and watch the peaceful atmosphere elude the people.”
