Plateau state Police Command has launched “Operation Puff Adder” with the aim of tackling security challenges such as kidnapping, armed robbery and cultism among other crimes. The command launched the operation at its headquarters in Jos on Friday through Deputy Commissioner of Police, Department of Finance and Administration, DCP Bature Umar. DCP Umar in his speech explained that the command launched the operation in the state following a directive given to the Commissioners of Police by the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar when he launched the operation on 5th April. He said the operation in the state would be under direct supervision of the Conventional Police comprising of Police Mobile Force (PMP), Counter Terrorist Unit (CTU), Special Protection Unit (SPU), Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), State Intelligence Bureau (SIE) and State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID). He said, “The operation is to tackle crimes affecting Plateau State such as kidnapping‚ armed robbery, cultism, banditry and Sara Suka among others.“ “And also to also prevent influx of criminal elements from neighboring Kaduna, Nasarawa and Taraba state.” He said. He called on members of the general public to support and cooperate with the command in order to tackle crimes in the state.
