WHATSAPP appears to be down and not working for a number of users this afternoon, preventing some from downloading or sending images and audio.

WhatsApp is easily the most popular third-party chatting app in the world. However, the messaging platform appears to be suffering from problems today.

Independent outage monitor Down detector has registered over 1,400 reports from users at one time insisting the app is not working properly.

An outage map showed the UK and parts of South American being hit the hardest by the outage.

In particular, many fans have complained they are unable to send or receive photos and audio.

Downdetector appears to have corroborated such claims – the site has declared 63 percent of WhatsApp issues have been related to receiving messages.

Additionally, 33 percent of problems were said to have stemmed from connection issues with the service.

Finally, three percent of fans declared they were having problems connecting to the app.

One said: “Is anyone else having problems with WhatsApp? Can’t send photo or audio message.”

A second wrote: “Can’t do anything on WhatsApp. #whatsappdown”

A third declared: “Whatsapp down ya?”

In addition to WhatsApp, it appears Facebook and Instagram are also suffering from problems.

It is unclear what has caused the ongoing outage.
