A 62-year-old grandmother, Aisha Tetteh has been arrested for allegedly burning her 13-year-old granddaughter’s left hand, as punishment for stealing meat from the pot.

The police at Amasaman in the Greater Accra region, Ghana, said, they also arrested Godson Ablor, 36, who reportedly assisted her in punishing the girl.

Police Public Relations Officer of the Accra Regional Command, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Mrs Effia Tenge, said the incident took place around 8pm on Tuesday.

She said the two accused the victim of stealing meat from two separate pots of soup belonging to Aisha and Ablor’s wife.

“Ablor’s wife, Regina Ayi complained that pieces of meat was missing meat from her pot of soup, after which Aisha also claimed meat from her soup had gone missing.

“Immediately, four children in the house were assembled as part of investigations to find the perpetrator and the victim was accused.”

Mrs Tenge said even though the victim denied, Tetteh and Ablor decided to punish her for allegedly stealing the meat from the soups.

“As part of the punishment, Ablor allegedly used a razor blade to cut the left fingers of the victim before shoving her hand into the burning charcoal.

“The victim was left to her fate after her hand was burnt. Her cries for help were also ignored.”

Tenge said, it was a member of the municipal assembly, who took the victim to the hospital, as well as reported the matter at the police station.

Ablor and Tetteh have since been charged with causing harm.
