Nollywood actor Yul Edochie has advised fellow celebrities not to depend on others loving them but to rather love themselves.
The 36-year old actor gave the advice in a tweet on Thursday in reaction to recent allegations that there is no love in the Nigerian movie industry.
“They say there’s no love in Nollywood.
“I laugh. Brethren there’s no love anywhere, not only in Nollywood. The world is tough, it’s a jungle out here.
“My advice: Don’t wait for anyone to love you, love yourself, help yourself,” Yul wrote.
His message comes amid increasing spotlight on the state of relationships in the Nigerian entertainment industry.
Actress Iyabo Ojo had late last month lamented what she called gossip, envy and backstabbing in Nollywood.
Actor Kevin Ikeduba also decried the lifestyle of Nollywood stars in an Instagram post on Friday, December 7, insisting that the relationships depicted in public were false.
Comedian AY Makun supported Kevin’s stance, relating his own experience about the envy and division in Nollywood.
Filmmaker Charles Novia earlier this week urged celebs not to expect love from the industry, citing that hate and competition are needed to push the industry forward.
