Liverpool are reportedly ready to further secure Virgil van Dijk’s future by offering the Dutch defender a new deal worth £50million.
Football Insider report that Van Dijk, who joined the club on a five-year deal from Southampton in January 2018, is to be offered an improved five-year contract.
His current wages of £125,000 would rise to around £150,000 and the fulcrum of the Reds defence would be further secured for the long term at Anfield.
It is believed a new deal for Van Dijk is viewed as a ‘priority’ by the club’s owners given the immense impact the Dutchman has provided since his arrival two years ago.
His debut season saw him go on to unanimously claim the PFA Player of the Year award while Liverpool have gone on to dominate both domestically and in Europe since he arrived.
Van Dijk has played every minute of the 2019-20 season as the club looks set to post a record-breaking points total on route to winning their first Premier League title.
It was gathered that all players who have played in the Premier League this season will be eligible for the £4million bonus should they win the title, which will be paid on a sliding scale determined by their number of appearances.
First-team regulars such as Van Dijk will bag approximately £150,000 on top of the standard win bonuses they get during the season.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is also in line for a significant bonus as the new four-and-a-half-year deal he signed in December included several performance incentives on top of his £15m salary.
Liverpool’s squad received £7m for winning the Champions League last season.
