The Spanish Football Association has confirmed that five players in the top 2 tiers of professional soccer in Spain have tested positive for COVID-19, as both leagues are planning a return in June.
All players in La Liga and the 2nd division are being tested for the coronavirus as part of the government’s four-phase de-escalation plan before resuming the competition.
La Liga says that the five infected players would continue to train individually at home before being tested again “in the next few days” to determine whether they can return to club training.
Meanwhile, the president of the Spanish Association of Football Doctors said that if there were more positive tests during training, the whole squad would not need to be quarantined and the competition will go ahead as planned.
