Malawi Presidential Election: Buhari Congratulates Chakwera

President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated the newly elected Malawi president Lazarus Chakwera.

Buhari expressed this in a statement issued by Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant to the President (Media & Publicity) in Abuja on Sunday.

The president noted that the alliance won the re-run five months after the first vote with 58.57 per cent of the total votes as declared by the country’s electoral commission.

“Greetings from the government and people of Nigeria. I congratulate you and the alliance on your impressive victory in the elections. I look forward to working with you for the advancement of peace, security and development of the entire continent,” President Buhari said.

Lazarus Chakwera was the opposition alliance leader until his election in the country’s presidential re-run election re-run.
