Two men, Mansir Seidu and Abdulazeez Sheu, who pleaded guilty to beating a traffic official into a coma, were ordered to be held in custody pending punishment by a Grade I Area Court in Karu, Abuja, on Tuesday.

Seidu, 29, and Sheu, 28, who reside in Idu Depot in Abuja, were charged by the police with a joint act, criminal intimidation, using criminal force to prevent a public official from doing his legal job, intentionally inflicting harm using dangerous means, damage, and theft.

Malam Inuwa Maiwada, the judge, scheduled the sentencing for Friday.

 

On September 20, Seidu was stopped while operating a truck with the license plate KEF 972 SE on the Karu bridge to see if it was roadworthy, according to the prosecution attorney, Olanrewaju Osho.

Osho said that Seidu beat Hussain Adema, the complainant who worked for the directorate of road traffic services, till he fell into a coma while being driven to the Abacha barracks in Abuja.

Prior to his rescue and transportation to the hospital, where he is still getting critical care, the prosecutor said that the defendants also stabbed the traffic official.

According to the police, the defendants also stole his cell phone valued N68, 500 and tore the complainant’s outfit worth N27, 500.
