Fayemi Spends N20 Million on Two of Ekiti’s Top Teachers

On Wednesday, the Ekiti State government awarded N10 million to each of the top two elementary and secondary school teachers in the state.

Mrs. Adeyemi Omolade and Mrs. Mary Kupolati were the recipients.

Additionally, the government gave N100,000 checks to each of the 26 teachers who worked in the state’s 16 local government areas for their contributions to the improvement of education.

The state governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, addressed the teachers at the celebration of 2022 World Teachers’ Day and thanked them for their efforts and contributions to the state’s educational system.

The outgoing governor praised the teachers in the state for their dedication and sacrifice, noting that the rise in enrolment since 2018 could be credited to their hard work.

“Enrolment climbed from 191,117 in 2018 to 261,292 in 2022 as a result of the quality of your teaching and the welcoming learning environment given in our schools,” claimed Fayemi. Due to the growth in enrollment, 10 more secondary schools will inevitably be needed in 2021. Between 2018 and 2022, Ekiti’s public primary and secondary school enrollment rose from 901 to 906 and from 196 to 203, respectively.

“The free and mandatory education program was reinstated at the start of our second term in 2018,” the statement continued. Primary and high school children were no longer subject to levies. In order to prevent school dropouts, this was done.

“As a government, we noticed that many school structures were in poor condition. That is what drove us to decide to match UBEC’s contribution with a counterpart amount of roughly eight billion naira (#6b), which allowed us to carry out 886 projects that were scheduled to be completed between 2016 and 2020.

“Teachers who are their role models, counselors, and influencers must lead by example if our educational system is to change to a hybrid model that allows pupils/students to learn at their respective paces and occasionally in the comfort of their homes. Only if our teachers can inspire their students to aim high and reach their full potential will our quest be successful.

Sola Adigun, the state’s chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS), urged the governor in his speech to pay all unpaid teacher benefits before the end of his term in office.
