The election of Hon. Isiaka Abiodun Akinlade as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the House of Representatives for the Yewa South/Ipokia Federal Constituency has been overturned by a Federal High Court in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State.
In declaring the APC primary that selected Akinlade as its candidate invalid, Presiding Justice O.O. Oguntoyinbo described it as “irregular, null, and void.”
The Court determined that Akinlade never paid for an expression of interest and nomination form or was never screened by the APC in accordance with the National Assembly primary election for the 2023 election within the time frame specified by the party.
In order to prevent the APC and Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from recognizing Akinlade as the candidate for the House of Representatives from the Yewa South/Ipokia Federal Constituency in 2023, the Court ordered a new primary to be held within 40 days.
