A high court in Delta State sitting at Asaba has convicted and sentenced one Daniel Godwin Etong (m) to life imprisonment for the defilement of a 7-year-old girl.
The convict has subsequently been registered in the Delta State sexual offenders register and his information has been uploaded in the national database, according to a statement made by Mrs. Patricia Uche Akamagwuna, director, Sexual Offences, Domestic Violence, and Child Rights Unit, Ministry of Justice Asaba, Delta State.
The statement went on to say that the verdict shows that the battle against sexual offenders in the state could have been won.
She claimed that the decision assured that yet another sexual predator would be taken off the streets and prevented from preying on helpless children and women.
She said that the punishment and conviction will serve as a deterrent to prevent others from doing similar crimes.
