Nine victims of human trafficking near the border with the Niger Republic have been rescued by the Jigawa State Command of the Nigerian Immigration Service.
When introducing the victims at the Immigration Service command headquarters in the capital city of Dutse, the comptroller of the state’s service, Mr. Ahmed Dauda Bagari, made this disclosure. He said, “I am here before you today, Saturday, October 8, 2022, to introduce the victims of human trafficking who were intercepted and rescued by our personnel along Kazaure-Daura road.
The victims were detained on Friday, October 7, 2022 at around 1700 hours in Kazaure LGA while they were attempting to travel to Europe via the Niger Republic and Libya, according to Bagari.
He claims that the members of the Nigerian Immigration Service conducted a stop and search operation at our checkpoint at Tsamiyar Ilu in the Kazaure local government area of Jigawa State following a tip-off or credible intelligence regarding the victims’ transit from Kano to Niger through Kazaure.
In a collision where some of the victims suffered minor injuries, Bagari said that “on sighting the presence of our staff, the vehicle sought to elude interception by over-speeding and navigating around the check station.”
He stated that they are currently doing OK after receiving treatment at General Hospital Dutse.
According to the comptroller, the victims, who included eight women and ranged in age from 22 to 37, were from the states of Ogun, Ondo, Osun, and Enugu.
We are turning the over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Human Trafficking (NAPTI) for further action, as instructed by Comptroller General Idris Isa Jere, he continued.
