Three suspects have been detained by Kwara State Police Command agents for reportedly robbing and sexually assaulting female students at the Kwara State University in Malete, Kwara State’s Moro Local Government Area.

Ajayi Okasanmi, the Command’s spokesman, revealed this in a statement he gave on Sunda in Ilorin.

Idwan Abdulfatai (20), Ibrahim Akorede (25) and Aliyu Apalado (25), all residents of the Oke Fomo neighborhood in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State, were named as the suspects by Okasanmi.

He claimed that following reports from some female students that they had been robbed in their hostel in Malete at the stroke of midnight on October 7, 2022, they had been detained.

“In carrying out the directive of the CP after receiving another report of an armed robbery attack from three female 400-level Kwara State University, Malete students who said they were all robbed at their hostel called “Downtown” by armed hoodlums and had their property taken away forcibly,” he said.

“The squad was spotted by the thugs as they approached the gang’s alleged hideout, and the armed robbers fled. The investigators detained one Ridwan Abdulfatai, age 20, of Oke Fomo, Ilorin.

As a result, after lengthy questioning, the suspect admitted he was the head of a robbery group terrorizing the Malete town and its surroundings and that he was a prison inmate.

“He guided investigators in the arrest of two further gang members, Aliyu Abubakar Apalado, 25, and Ibrahim Ridwan Akorede, 25, both of the Oke Fomo neighborhood of Ilorin, who both admitted to the crimes.

The following goods were also found during the investigation: a locally produced gun, a jackknife, charms, 11 generators, two motorcycles, a small refrigerator, a standing fan, and a pumping machine.

The recovered items included 10 computers, two television sets, and 19 iPhones, six handsets, three iPhone11, 16 iPhone 6 plus, and 5 iPhone XR. In total, 87 handsets were taken.
