Dr. Sam Amadi, a former chairman and chief executive of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), declined to serve as the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Campaign Council’s director of research.

He added that the duty of political non-partisanship that resulted from his leadership and positions in numerous non-partisan platforms led him to choose to decline the job.

In a letter dated October 10, 2022, he made this claim and wrote it to Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, the governor of Sokoto State and director-general of the PDP Presidential Campaign Council.

In a letter titled “Non-Acceptance of Appointment as Director of Research for the PDP Presidential Campaign Committee,” Amadi stated that conflicts of interest arising from his roles as director of the Abuja School of Social and Political Thoughts (ASSPT), secretary of the Political and Strategy Committee of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), and analyst for the Arise News Channel led him to decline the PDP’s offer.

But he was grateful that the PDP and Tambuwal had given him the job.

“First of all, I’d want to express my gratitude for the opportunity to serve as the PDP Presidential Campaign Committee’s director of research for the 2023 presidential election. Being deemed suitable for such a high role on a great presidential committee is something I greatly value. The fact that you are leading the committee and are someone I have had the honor and privilege of working with in the past makes me happy as well. As usual, I have no doubt that you’ll seize this chance and succeed enormously.

Despite the fact that I am honored to be chosen as one of the directors to collaborate with you, I respectfully want to decline the appointment and hereby abstain.

“The choice to reject the offer was motivated by potential conflicts of interest arising from my leadership roles on several platforms, where I am expected to maintain my political impartiality and objectivity.

“I have gone to considerable lengths to convey my gratitude for the honor that this significant position has bestowed upon me. I regret that I won’t be able to take the position in its entirety due to the obligation of political non-partisanship that results from my leadership and involvement in numerous non-partisan forums, Amadi said.
