According to Professor Adekunle Adebiyi, Rector of The Polytechnic Ibadan (TPI), the institution’s present management and governing council prioritize training and retraining for both its academic and non-academic workers.
As an institution, we need to be upgrading our knowledge in order to be in accordance with the finest and most recent practices as far as the operation of this institution, according to Professor Adebiyi, who described learning as a generic and ongoing effort.
Last Wednesday, he gave a speech at a one-day seminar on due process and a public presentation of the institutional governing council’s accomplishments that was held in the TPI’s CIBN Hall.
In response to a question about why a seminar on due process should be held, the speaker stated that “knowledge is dynamic, and as a citadel of knowledge, we hope to lead others by example not only in Nigeria but also in sub-Saharan Africa and even as one of the polytechnics in the world, hence the move to update our knowledge base.”
“We are the leaders, and we have to lead by example,” he said, advising the senior management participants in the seminar to carry out their duties at the institution with utmost dedication.
He credited the governor Seyi Makinde-led administration’s inventiveness and kind nature toward the education sector for the institution’s current transformation and success.
“In general, no system is ideal. Every educational institution has faced the problem of money, but the government has provided us with enough funding to meet our needs.
“But even with our limited institutional resources, we are nevertheless able to make the most of them. We are attempting to demonstrate this to the globe.
Professor Adekunle Akinyemi, the chairman of TPI’s governing council, said in his remarks that the council deserves credit for the institution’s modest successes and that it would be glad for the governor’s support of the school.
He claims that the two-year-old council got right to work after its inception and has since taken on a significant number of projects, some of which have already been finished and inaugurated and others of which are still in progress.
He confirmed that there had been advancements in academic programs, employee financial welfare, and measures to lessen lawlessness and indiscipline within the polytechnic community.
The conduct of the 2020–2021 accreditation exercise of 35 programs, regular mobilization of HND2 for NYSC, provision and installation of computer systems in the Mechanical Engineering Department, facilitation of the approval and launch of the open distance and flexible e–learning by NBTE, construction of the Faculty of Science by TETFUND, among other things, were among the activities and accomplishments of the council that he listed.
In her presentation on the topic of “Corporate Governance and Due Process,” the Director-General of the Bureau of Public Procurement, Mrs. Tara Adefowope, placed special emphasis on the role that sound corporate governance plays in luring investors, partners, and funding as well as in enhancing an organization’s reputation and image.
She urged TPI’s management team to foster a culture of integrity and foster an atmosphere in which workers feel at ease discussing integrity-related issues.
“We are really glad that there is a platform, when all the stakeholders in the institution are brought together to discuss the growth and development of the school,” said Biodun Adegunde, chairman of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Polytechnics, TPI branch.
He praised the current council and congratulated Governor Seyi Makinde and the management team for making the right choice, saying it had significantly improved the system.
“This is the best council we’ve ever had, and in just two years, we’ve accomplished so much. This kind of event ought to be ongoing so that we have a forum to talk about the school’s development for future endeavors, he said.
