(BY BABATUNJI WUSU) The campaign train for the Lagos Peoples Democratic Party, PDP candidates, which included Dr. Olajide Adediran (Jandor), the party’s candidate for governor, and his running mate, Funke Akindele, was attacked by some hoodlums who were allegedly supported by the government’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
On Sunday evening when they were traveling back from the vicinity of Ikoga Junction in the state’s Badagry Local Government, the incident took place.
According to information obtained, Jandor and his group visited party members in the state’s local government region.
Hakeem Amode, the party’s chairman of the media and publicity, revealed this in a statement. He said that three persons were hurt in the incident.
Amode claimed that while firing and using other deadly weapons, the men who assaulted the campaign train were yelling “APC.”
He claimed that while others were being treated, a journalist harmed in the attack was in critical condition at an unnamed hospital. Amode added that the convoy’s trucks had sustained significant damage.
The statement reads, “The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidates’ campaign train was attacked tonight while returning from a visitation to party members in the Ikoga Junction neighborhood of Badagry Local Government… this evening.
“Several members of Jandor’s entourage and pressmen were hurt during the attack. One of the news reporters was in critical condition and was being treated in an unidentified hospital as of the time of this press release.
You may recall that our party expressed concern recently over the threat to use APC-sponsored thugs to attack the campaign initiatives of Dr. Abdul-Azeez Olajide Adediran-JANDOR, our candidate for governor. We would like to state unequivocally that this threat will not deter our candidate’s determination to run for the next election and win it on March 29, 2023.
In order to prevent similar incidents in the future and to give our members confidence that they will be protected during this campaign period, we would like to call on the Commissioner of Police of Lagos State and the Area Commander of Police in the Badagry division to do everything in their power to identify and punish those responsible for the attack.
“We would also like to firmly warn those who are hell-bent on creating unrest or trying to disrupt the campaign and elections that we would not fold our arms and watch as we will fight all sorts of intimidation,” the statement continued.
