Danjuma Shiddi, a representative for Taraba State’s Wukari/Ibi Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has demanded the release of Mr. Samaila Yakubu, the director general of his campaign council, who was detained by the police.
Shiddi, an All Progressives Congress (APC) member running for the Senate in Taraba South in the 2019 election, spoke to reporters in Abuja yesterday.
A Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) member named Governor Darius Ishaku is also running for the same seat.
Shiddi claimed that Yakubu was detained for allegedly agitating the public while urging followers to take down his posters and maintain composure.
He pointed out that the action was harassment intended to sabotage his bid for the Senate.
“Sumaila, the director general of my campaign organization, was taken away on Monday by a joint team of security personnel, led by the Police, in a commando-style operation.
He said that “almost impossible” bail restrictions were imposed on the director general’s release when the case was heard by the State High Court yesterday.
He claimed that the requirements included two first-class chiefs, two top public professionals at the rank of permanent secretaries, and a reputable state native worth N50 million.
Shidi claimed that every available legal avenue was being used to gain the release of the director general of his campaign organization.
According to him, the national APC was being informed of the development.
He claimed that if left unchecked, the PDP-controlled Taraba State Government, led by Governor Darius Ishaku, has a propensity to undermine democracy and spark crises in the state.
