Former deputy vice-chancellor for academics at the University of Ibadan (UI) and abductee Adigun Agbaje’s captors reportedly requested a ransom of N50 million to secure his release.
Following a shooting confrontation between police officers and the kidnappers on Saturday along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, Agbaje was taken hostage.
Earlier, the academic’s kidnapping had been confirmed by Adewale Osifeso, the Oyo police spokesperson.
According to the police spokesperson, one cop was killed and another was “badly injured” in the incident.
The kidnappers allegedly contacted Agbaje’s family and demanded a N50 million ransom.
On Sunday, @Dammielawlar, a Twitter user, posted information about the bank account that one of Agbaje’s coworkers uses to receive payments for the ransom.

“Payments should be made to First Bank account number 2004429197 for all contributions. Political Science UI HoD Prof. E. Remi Aiyede. I greatly appreciate it.
Adebowale Williams, the state commissioner of police, has in the meanwhile mandated extensive technologically assisted investigations to shed light on the circumstances that led to the tragedy.
