On Wednesday, Okechukwu Eze, 37, was charged with beating a woman and causing her to miscarry at an Upper Area Court in Karu, Abuja.

Eze, a candidate with no known address, was accused by the police of using unlawful force and violence that caused a miscarriage.

The complainant was struck in the stomach by the defendant in September under the Nyanya Busstop in Karu in an effort to prevent a driver from picking her up, according to the prosecution’s attorney, Mr. Olanrewaju Osho, who testified in court.
According to Osho, the complainant, Anakputa Anthonia, who resides in Gogo, a neighborhood behind the Civil Defense Quarters in Kubwa, claimed the incident led to her miscarrying.

He claimed that the offense was against Section 365 of the Penal Code.
The accused entered a not-guilty plea to the accusation.

The defendant was granted bail by the judge, Mr. Hassan Mohammed, in the amount of N100,000 with one responsible surety who had to be a resident of the same area as the court.
Mohammed commanded that the court officer and the police officer must verify the surety’s residence, and that one passport and a national identification card must be stored in the court.

The defendant was had to provide a written undertaking promising not to disrupt the complainant’s peace, per the judge’s ruling.
Additionally, he mandated that the defendant draft a commitment to keep the peace.

Mohammed consequently decided to postpone the case’s hearing until November 9. (NAN)
