The newly designed naira notes will be unveiled by President Major General Muhammadu Buhari (ret.) on Wednesday, according to Central Bank of Nigeria Governor Godwin Emefiele.
During the Monetary Policy Committee’s monthly meeting on Tuesday in Abuja, Emefiele revealed this.
The newly designed N1,000, N500, and N200 notes will be introduced.
The governor stated that the apex bank would not extend the January 31, 2023 deadline for the deposit of all old notes in commercial banks.
Emefiele declared on October 26, 2022, that the CBN would start issuing the redesigned N200, N500, and N1,000 notes on December 15, 2022. However, he has stated that the CBN will announce on Wednesday, November 23, 2022 rather than waiting until December 15. (tomorrow).
“One hundred days is plenty for everybody from wherever in Nigeria to deposit money in the bank and receive their money when the fresh notes are issued,” he declared.
For your information, we won’t be revealing and releasing the updated notes on December 15 as previously planned.
“At the special grace of God, the President has kindly accepted to unveil the new currencies tomorrow, which is the 23rd of November 2022, and the new currencies will be unveiled tomorrow at the Federal Executive Chamber by 10am.”
