Adegboyega Oyetola, the departing governor of Osun State, had swore in 69 council chairmen before the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission’s elections were annulled by a Federal High Court in Osogbo, the state’s capital (OSIEC).

The electoral umpire conducted the election illegally and in violation of Sections 29 and 32 of the Electoral Act of 2022, the court decided.

Justice Nathaniel Ayo-Emmanuel issued a ruling on Friday stating that the council chairmen, who were sworn in by Oyetola, were elected illegally and should resign.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who filed the lawsuit, requested that the court prevent OSIEC from proceeding with the scheduled elections.
