Onyeaghalachi Stephen Nwagwugwu, one of two brothers who were important suppliers of illegal drugs in the South-East and South-South regions of the nation, has been detained by NDLEA agents.
This, according to the NDLEA, is the culmination of nine years of pursuit.
The suspect’s older brother, Eze Kaleb Stephen, who is also wanted, barely escaped during the nocturnal operation that was conducted concurrently at their two locations, Umuahia and Ntigha Okpuola community in Isiala Ngwa North LGA of Abia State, according to NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi.
Investigations revealed that the two notorious brothers started out as pocket dealers in the late 1990s before opening smoking joints/bunks in their community of Ntigha Okpuola. They later developed into barons, owning hotels, homes in affluent areas of Abia, Rivers, and Imo State, and exotic cars in their residences.
Since they staged a mob attack on some of the agency’s agents who tried to catch them during a raid in 2013, the NDLEA has been on their trail. At least one of the officers who was attacked at the time remains incapacitated.

The two drug lords share ownership of the armed army that protects their homes and drug establishments, where they deal in a variety of illicit substances like cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine (Mpuru-miri) Loud/Arizona, and other chemicals.
“Four months ago, a new attempt was made to apprehend the pair and put an end to their illicit activities. On November 26, 2022, a simultaneous raid operation was conducted on both of their sites. While the elder brother, Eze, almost escaped when his Ntigha Okpuola village home was invaded by operatives supported by members of the Nigerian Army, the younger brother, Onyeaghalachi, who resides in Umuahia, the capital of Abia state, was successfully arrested. Eberechi Kingsley Monday, one of their fighters, was also detained during the raid.
