Alhaji Garba Dahiru, the winner of the first primary election held for the Bauchi South Senatorial seat under the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bauchi State, has once more won the party’s rerun of the primary.
Recall that a Federal High Court in Owerri, Imo State, invalidated the initial primary election and ordered a rematch between the winner at the time and the first runner-up, Mahiru Maiwada, who expressed unhappiness with the results.
The PDP National Secretariat oversaw the rerun primary poll, which took place on Wednesday in the Banquet Hall of the Zaranda Hotel and Tower.
Alhaji Mahiru Maiwada, Garba Dahiru’s main opponent, received 7 votes, according to the Presiding Officer, Senator Mohammed Bello, who announced the election results. Garba Dahiru received 211 votes overall.

The repeat poll followed a recent ruling by a Federal High Court in Oweri, Imo State, in a lawsuit filed by Alhaji Mahiru Maiwada contesting the results of the most recent Primary Election, which he lost by just one vote.
Five candidates competed in the most recent primary election, which was held on March 5, 2022. Alhaji Garba Dahiru received 70 votes, while Mahiru Maiwada received 69.
