UZODIMMA BLAMES NIGERIA’S BUILDING COLLAPSE ON SUBPAR ENGINEERING

Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma has attributed numerous building collapses throughout the nation on subpar engineering.

The governor argued that NSE members should be able to carry out their responsibilities similarly to other professions.

When the President and senior executives of the NSE in Nigeria paid him a courtesy visit at Government House Owerri on Thursday, he said this in front of them.

If the engineers were given the freedom to carry out their duties as experts, he claimed, the innocent lives that we lose in building collapses could be prevented.

He then issued a challenge to the Society, asking them to occasionally step in and save the country in their own fields of expertise.

Governor Uzodimma reaffirmed his belief in the NSE’s professional ethics and his conviction that “everything about life and society involves engineering” while reminding the group that he is a Corporate Member of the Society.

The Nigeria Society of Engineers must be actively involved and at the forefront of Nigeria’s development, he declared.

A quality building project will undoubtedly aid in the development of the country, but over the years, many administrations have not paid enough attention to engineers.

Additionally, he asked for collaboration between the NSE and the government in the areas of oversight and monitoring.

The National President of NSE, Engineer Tasiu Sahid Wudil, earlier stated that the organization was in Owerri for the 6th Engineer Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu lecture series and recognized the Governor’s excellent work, particularly with regard to road construction.

Wudil gushed praise for the Governor’s accomplishments, most of which, in his opinion, were people-oriented initiatives like building better roads, advancing ICT, and empowering women and young people.

He emphasized that the NSE is an impartial organization and urged the Governor to help the society realize its goal of establishing an engineering center in Owerri, similar to those that already exist in Lagos, Benin, Uyo, and Kano, for the purpose of educating future engineers and giving them employment opportunities.
