Ahmad Lawan, the president of the Senate, declared on Sunday that Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), and Kashim Shettima, Tinubu’s running mate, would receive 98% of the votes in Yobe State in the upcoming presidential election.
Yobe State, according to Mr. Lawan, is the APC’s “pride and joy,” and he promised to do everything in his power to ensure the party’s victory in all elections.
The Senate President spoke at the inauguration of the Yobe State APC 2023 Campaign Council, which was held at Yobe Government House, in Damaturu, the capital of Yobe State.
Mr. Lawan serves as the council’s alternate chairman, with Bukar Abba Ibrahim, a second former governor, serving as the council’s grand patron. The council is presided over by former state governor Ibrahim Gaidam.
Speaking at the event, the Senate President declared, “By the Grace of God, we will be totally committed to making sure that this party, the APC in Yobe State, delivers all the seats, just as the chairman of the council said.
“Because the APC in Yobe State is the pride of the APC in Nigeria, and we cannot afford to let the APC family in Nigeria down, we will work tirelessly, we will make sure that we don’t leave any stone unturned, and we will do whatever it takes.
Actually, we firmly believe that our performance in the Presidential poll should be unmatched. We should be able to elect our presidential candidate with no less than 98% of the vote, as we previously did.
And we can accomplish that by ruthlessly dedicating ourselves to our party instead of to local beliefs or sentiments.
You are aware that Yobe State is home to a single family, and by the Grace of God, our governor ought to receive the highest number of votes of any governor in Nigeria.
“We’ll accomplish this by ensuring competition between our three state-wide zones. In order to ensure that our governor returns to office with flying colors, I want to assure you that we will take all appropriate legal action.
“Insha Allah, members of our National Assembly and State Assembly ought to be awaiting the inauguration.
Above all, we ought to serve as a model for everyone in this zone—I’m referring to the North East zone. Borno, our sister state and neighbor, has a vice presidential candidate. Let’s win the presidential election and defeat Borno State.
Yobe and Borno are the same person. They have previously supported us in every way possible, and one good deed calls for more. We need to extend the same courtesy to them as well.
“Finally, I want to express my gratitude to the people who thought highly enough of us to choose to join the campaign council. I want to make it clear that I’m committed to making sure that, by God’s grace, we deliver our party in Yobe.
“As for the party’s unity, there is no one here who has any doubts about the fact that we are a unified party…
Here, we are all brothers. We’ll stay united in the future.
Yobe State has always supported the progressives, according to Mr. Gaidam, the chairman of the campaign council, who gave the award speech.
“I can state without fear of contradiction that this (the progressives’) platform has been responsible for the state’s enormous transformation over the years.
“We have a responsibility to make sure that the APC wins all seats that are up for election so that we can form government at the state and federal levels in order to maintain all the progress we have already made. Insha Allah, I can assure you that the council has kept up its winning pace.
