IKONNE’S HOMETOWN IS GIVEN THE VACANT GOVERNOR’S SEAT BY THE ABIA PDP.

Members of the Abia PDP State Caucus met over the weekend and decided to zone the vacant guber seat to Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area, the late Prof. Eleazar Uche Ikonne’s home LGA, following his death on January 25, 2022, and the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, subsequent directive to conduct a fresh primary within 14 days to replace him.
This was in light of the fact that the Abia PDP set February 4th as the date for the primary election to pick a successor to the late Prof. Uche Ikonne.

The decision to replace the deceased candidate was made after a meeting of the Abia PDP State Caucus, whose membership was drawn from all areas of the State, including Abia North, Ikwuano/Umuahia, Ukwa East, and Ukwa West Local Government Areas, according to Elder Abraham Amah, the Abia PDP Vice Chairman/Acting State Publicity Secretary.

The governor of the state, His Excellency Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, the speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Engr. Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji, the former governor of the state, Senator Theodore A. Orji, and the other two PDP candidates for the Senate, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa and Col. Austin Akobundu, were all present at the meeting.

The Statutory members of the Abia PDP State Caucus were also present, with the exception of one who submitted a letter of apology.

In order to ensure a successful primary election, the Party implores members to support the choice made by the Party caucus.

The party requested that any candidates who were interested get Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms from the PDP Headquarters at Wadata Plaza, Wuse Abuja. The party stated that the sale of both forms will start on January 27 and expire on February 1, 2023.

He stated that on Thursday, February 2, 2023, the PDP National Headquarters would host the candidate screening.

Additionally, the party urged candidates to appear before the Abia PDP State Working Committee on Friday, February 2, 2023 at the State Secretariat on Finbars Street, Umuahia.

The Party urged its members to be on the lookout for additional information and briefings from the State Party Secretariat’s Publicity Department in Umuahia.
