Bala Mohammed, the governor of Bauchi State, visited the victims who were hurt in an attack by unidentified gunmen who are believed to be armed robbers on several POS operators in Katagum, the administrative center of the Zaki LGA of Bauchi State. Given that the region serves as a gateway to the states of Kano, Jigawa, and Yobe, it was said that the attack had put the locals in a state of constant anxiety.
Along with his running companion for governor, Mohamed Auwal Jatau, and other senior government officials, Bala Mohammed was accompanied by the heads of the state’s security agencies.
While visiting the location of the event, the Governor and the Emir of Katagum, Dr. Umar Farouk I, gave the afflicted individuals the assurance that government will assess their losses and provide assistance.
Speaking at the time of the visit, Bala Mohammed said that he had come to the Emir’s palace with his entourage and security personnel to express his condolences to the Emir and the Emirate over the two heinous incidents—the explosion and the robbery attack on POS operators.
According to him, the sad circumstance has left the locals in a great deal of anxiety, panic, and devastation.
“The shooting event at Zaki local government in Katagum area, which is the end of the state, was triggered to our understanding not by terrorists, but for economic motives,” he claimed.
And that is why we are here, the governor continued, “to reassure you and the Emirate that the state is conscious and enthusiastic about security, but please accept our sympathies and sorrow because the incidents have caused a great deal of grief to the people of Katagum.”
The state administration of Bauchi, he emphasized, is prepared to safeguard the safety of people and property within the state. We will also step up our efforts to make sure that individuals who live far from the state capital are given special care.
“I am here with the security Commanders to promise you that Bauchi will safe and secure, and we are going to make sure that we offer more support to the security agencies here so that they can do their duty,” he continued.
The Governor afterwards paid a visit to a few victims of the robbery attack who are being treated at the Federal Medical Center (FMC), Azare, and promised to pay for their medical expenses.
He also expressed sympathy to the people of the Katagum local government over the destruction of homes and other property caused by dynamite that exploded in Azare town.
The Governor was praised by the Emir of Katagum, Umar Farouk, for establishing a connection with the locals during a moment of unrest like what occurred.
The traditional leader requested the deployment of more security personnel in the region due to its crucial location and distance from the government’s headquarters.
