PREMIER LEAGUE: RASHFORD FIRES MAN UTD TO 2-1 WIN OVER PALACE, CASEMIRO SEES RED

At Old Trafford on Saturday, Manchester United overcame a straight red card for Casemiro by defeating Crystal Palace 2-1 despite Marcus Rashford winning a penalty in the first half and scoring himself in the second.

When a VAR review revealed that Will Hughes had handled a ball from Rashford in the box, Bruno Fernandes immediately put the visitors in the lead by converting from the penalty spot in the seventh minute.

The greatest opportunity for Palace came just before halftime when Jeffrey Schlupp sent a dipping, swerving drive from long range that David de Gea had to get down quickly to stop. Aside from that, Palace had trouble posing a danger to the United goal.

11 minutes into the second half, Rashford cut inside and sent a shot just over the bar. Shortly after, winger Antony sprinted into the box with the ball at his feet but failed to find a partner, allowing Palace to clear.

In the 62nd minute, the in-form Rashford made it 2-0 with a straightforward goal after a move that featured some excellent short passing as United appeared to be cruising to victory.

Casemiro was given a straight red card for grabbing Hughes by the throat after a fight that broke out between the two teams after a foul on Antony, but Jeffrey Schlupp scored to give Palace some hope in the 76th minute.

The opponents pushed forward in an attempt to score an equalizer, but United coach Erik ten Hag brought on Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof, who replaced fellow substitute Alejandro Garnacho, to assist stop the attack as they managed to hold on for the victory.

In the rankings, Manchester United has moved up to third place with 42 points, eight points behind leader Arsenal and three points behind second-place Manchester City. Palace is in 12th place with 24 points.
