The residence of Hon. Emeka Okoronkwo, the commissioner for youth and sports in Imo State, was damaged by gunmen early on Tuesday.
Prof. Nnamdi Obiaraeri, a former dean of the law school at Imo State University in Owerri, resides in Burnt as well. Prof. Obiaraeri previously held the positions of commissioner for information, youth and sports, and land and urban planning, respectively, under the administrations of Dr. Ikedi Ohakim and Owelle Rochas Okorocha, two former governors of the state.
Also damaged was Emeka Ngwu’s rural home, a retired director of the Department of State Security (DSS).
An elderly woman who was in Ngwu’s home was engulfed in the fire and is alleged to have perished as a result, according to an eyewitness.
The eyewitness reportedly noted the burning of two additional homes that belonged to two notable local sons.
The incident happened in the state’s Okigwe Local Government Area in the Amagu Ihube community.
Emeka Okoronkwo, the State’s Commissioner for Youths and Sports, verified the heinous occurrence.
When contacted, Henry Okoye, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), verified the attacks and emphasized that an investigation had started with the goal of catching the offenders.
